Following the recent unfortunate fire incident at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), and subsequent to our earlier media update (posted on our website), Barclays Bank of Kenya (BBK) wishes to advise that:-

  1. To support the on-going efforts by the government and other stakeholders’ geared at facilitating near normal operations at JKIA, we have opened a temporary branch next to the state pavilion. This branch is perhaps the first fully-fledged outdoor banking facility providing standard banking services.
  2. At this branch, all our customers can now enjoy normal services, which were previously offered at the former JKIA international Arrivals terminal.
  3. At the same time, we wish to clarify that during the unfortunate fire incident, our cash vaults were not affected. As a standard operating practice, all our cash deposits and related documents are preserved in a fire proof safe that was recovered intact.
  4. However, we do confirm a substantial loss of office equipment including computers, desks and chairs among other business infrastructure. Across the organisation, we maintain robust remote/offsite data management systems that allow for seamless business recovery as is now evident at the temporary branch.

At Barclays Bank of Kenya, we remain cognisant of the crucial economic role that convenient banking services provide particularly at an international travel centre such as JKIA. For this reason, we shall actively support all efforts by the government, Kenya Airports Authority and related stakeholders geared at ensuring the comfort of all travellers at JKIA.
